Yoga for Trauma Recovery using Poly Vagal Theory and Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga is an evidence-based practice that is offered as a 10-week program.
This program is designed to: ✅ Regulate the nervous system using breath, movement, and stillness. ✅ Empower choice-making to restore agency and control. ✅ Build interoception (awareness of internal sensations). ✅ Support trauma healing through the integration of Polyvagal Theory and yoga.
Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is based on the hatha style of yoga, where participants engage in a series of physical forms and movements to build trauma survivors’ experiences of EMPOWERMENT and cultivate a more POSITIVE relationship to one’s body. This practice presents OPPORTUNITIES for participants to RECONNECT with their own bodies, work on spatial awareness, the felt-sense, and building a sense of agency. The focus is on the internal experience of the participant, as it is a key attribute of TCTSY as a complementary treatment for complex trauma. With this approach, the power resides with the individual. Furthermore, by focusing on the felt-sense of the body, it helps one with CHOICE-MAKING, enabling the participants to RESTORE the CONNECTION of mind and body and cultivate a SENSE OF SELF that is compromised as a result of trauma. A safe, supportive, predictable and non-judgmental environment is created to enable participants to feel free to explore.
